A former country kitchen was turned into a sophisticated urban culinary center for a professional cook and mother of three. Zones divide the space into separate areas for prepping , cooking, baking , kids snacking, homework , and clean up The Yin and Yang island is a subtly dramatic bonding of two trapezoids - one of black honed granite and the other of grey pietra stone. The perimeter countertops are made of black honed granite and complement the existing slate floor tiles. Wenge veneer cabinets are a stately yet serene background and the uppers have etched glass lit from inside. The backsplash is “Zen Weave” by Ann Sacks and makes a strong geometric statement.
