Joseph has over 18 years experience in the field of Interior Design and Construction. He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Interior Design from Florida State University and a Masters of Architecture Degree from Catholic University. Early in his career Joseph worked for some of the largest, award winning design firms creating both corporate and large scale residential interiors. In 2001, Joseph relocated to Palo Alto, California and founded Joseph Hittinger Designs. Since arriving in the Bay Area he has won awards for his innovative and creative interiors and has been published in California Home & Design Magazine, Gentry Magazine, The San Francisco Chronicle, The San Jose Mercury News, San Jose Magazine, The Palo Alto Daily and The Palo Alto Weekly. His work is featured in several books as well. Joseph was a design expert for HGTV’s “Double Take” and his work has been featured on HGTV's "Sensible Chic.” He recently designed the refreshing interiors for the Sunset Magazine Monterey Bay Idea House, three connected barn-like buildings surrounded by a native landscape dotted with mature oaks.
The greater Bay Area has benefited from Joseph's talent in other ways as well. He served as President for the local chapter of ASID (American Society of Interior Designers) and has been on the board in other capacities as well, including positions on the ASID National Level. He actively supports several local charities by donating his talent for fundraising events including the prestigious Christmas at Our House holiday home tour by St. Francis High School and Gentry Magazine’s Hollywood Hosts event for Peninsula Youth Theatre. Joseph has taught design at West Valley College and UC Berkeley Extension and serves as a Site Visitor for CIDA (Council for Interior Design Accreditation) to ensure that Colleges and Universities with Interior Design programs are in compliance with CIDA standards.
